Visit from Cannington School

September 21, 2023

They had found a real taonga, an old copy of “Facsimiles of the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Waitangi”, on their school grounds and were very keen to learn more about te tiriti and to see the place where it was first signed. They entered the Air New Zealand Airpoints for Schools programme and were one of the winning schools!

During the visits they showed their taonga to Imogen and to Caitlin Timmer-Arends, our Collections Coordinator, who explained how museums ensure taonga are being kept save. They visited Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi, explored the grounds and especially enjoyed the Cultural Performance in the Whare Rūnanga by our Te Pitowhenua rōpu. Thanks for choosing us as your dream destination!
