Are you passionate about education, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the unique history of Aotearoa, and te ao Māori?  The Waitangi Treaty Grounds invites applications for a dynamic Educator to join our Learning Team. This is a special opportunity to help shape the way our nation's founding story is shared with ākonga (students), adult learners, and visitors from across Aotearoa and beyond.

About the Role:

As an Educator, you will plan, coordinate, and deliver engaging education programmes that align with the New Zealand Curriculum | Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, Te Aho Matua, Te Whariki and reflect the spirit of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. You’ll contribute to LEOTC-funded initiatives, support public programmes for ākonga (students), and engage adult learners through innovative and relevant educational experiences that foster deeper understanding and connection. You will work collaboratively across teams to uphold our values and mission.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver ELC education programmes grounded in the NZ Curriculum | Te Marautanga, Te Aho Matua and Te Whariki.

• Develop and deliver learning opportunities for adult learners, including public programmes, workshops, and community engagement.

• Create both online and in-person educational resources.

• Facilitate public education programmes for children and adults.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, adult education providers, and learning networks.

• Contribute to developing innovative educational experiences that reflect national and international interests.

• Support guiding and curatorial teams as needed.

You will bring:  Our ideal candidate will have:

• NZ  Teacher registration with 5+ years of experience in education, and/or working adult learners.

• A deep respect for and understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga.

• Experience designing inclusive and engaging learning experiences across diverse age groups.

• Strong communication, facilitation, and organisational skills.

• A passion for bringing history to life in ways that are relevant, inclusive, and inspiring.

• A collaborative spirit aligned with our values: Manaakitanga, Tika, Whakarite, Whakarereke, Rangatiratanga, Kaitiakitanga, and Whakamanawa.

Desirable:

• Fluency in Te Reo Māori

• Digital skills and learning delivery experience

• Experience in heritage and cultural sector

• Familiarity with bicultural and adult education frameworks.

What you'll be doing | Te whakamahere

You will cover a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

Event & Function Coordination, Administration & Delivery

  • Overseeing and ensuring events at Waitangi grow into a successful part of the business, developing a reputation for high quality events and service.
  • Ensure all relevant hire equipment, food/beverage and items or services are ordered and delivered on time.
  • Detailed runsheets are produced and circulated
  • Work proactively with internal teams & external clients to ensure needs are met and events are delivered to a high standard
  • Stock & equipment is accounted for and organised
  • Assist Events Manager with event & function delivery across our various event spaces
  • Assist with pack up/down and event delivery
  • Ensure all relevant admin and procedures are kept up to date

Team Performance and Leadership

  • Create an environment that fosters and develops continuous improvement and excellence through staff training & development.
  • Ensuring effective communication within the team and across the organisation
  • Be familiar with all company policies & procedures to support and guide Events team
  • Create rosters, review and approve time sheets, and leave requests, in a timely manner.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have 2 years+ industry experience delivery high quality customer service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A positive 'can do', personable and professional attitude
  • Take initiative & solutions focused mind-set
  • Work well under pressure & excellent time management
  • Flexible to work evenings, weekends and public holidays if required.
  • LCQ & Duty Managers License (or willing to obtain)

Waitangi National Trust seeks to appoint a Trustee “…as a member of the family of Maihi Kawiti” regarding the Waitangi National Trust Board Act 1932.

The Trust is a non-profit charitable organisation that governs an estate of 504ha, including the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Through a subsidiary company, the Trust manages several land leases and commercial activities to provide income to support the maintenance and development of the estate on behalf of the people of New Zealand.

Applicants should demonstrate skills, experience, and knowledge relating to general governance, Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi, and the objectives of Waitangi National Trust. Commercial acumen is essential, as is experience working with communities (including Māori). Experience in the tourism sector and some knowledge of Te Reo Māori would be an advantage.
