Tahuaroa Function Centre

Waitangi Treaty Grounds opened Tahuaroa Function Centre in February 2020, just before lockdown.The purpose built, customisable and modern event space has a venue capacity of 190. Tahuaroa, meaning large open space, is located behind Te Rau Aroha museum amongst the native trees of the upper Treaty Grounds.Since lockdown was lifted Waitangi has already received 19 bookings for Tahuaroa with eight events taking place in July. Marketing Manager Nineke Metz is very happy with the bookings, “Tahuaroa has transformed the Waitangi venue portfolio. Previously we were able to host conferences for up to 90 people in the Learning Centre that opened in 2016, but we have definitely stepped up to a new level now.

With the option of cocktail functions in Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi foyer, evening meetings in Te Whare Rūnanga, or movie screenings in our Theatre, we can now cater for a large range of events. Add unique experiences such as private pōwhiri, behind the scenes museum tours, workshops and tailor-made cultural experiences, all supported by our excellent onsite hospitality team, and you can see we are ready for business”.With its own private entrance, wraparound decking and contemporary design, Tahuaroa is adistinctive space for conferences, functions, meetings, weddings and events.

Fitted with a partitioning wall, Tahuaroa can be split into three various sizes - each with built-in audio, projectors, screens, blinds, touch screen controls and air-conditioning. Large stacking doors open out onto a private covered deck and courtyard area, perfect for outdoor entertainment and indoor-outdoor flow.A new conference brochure is available from the Waitangi website that includes all indoor venues: Tahuaroa, the Learning Centre, the Board Room, Whare Waka Café, Theatre, Te Kōngahu Museum Foyer and Te Whare Rūnanga, plus five outdoor locations suitable for marquees each with their own unique vista.
