We are excited to announce that the inaugural Waitangi Housing Expo 2024 will take place at Waitangi Sports Grounds, 6 February 2024, as part of the annual Waitangi Day celebrations.

This new addition to the Waitangi Day programme brings together a wealth of housing industry experience, information, and support, all located within the heart of Waitangi.

The Expo is open to everyone, no matter where you are on your housing journey.

The theme for this year’s Expo is Roadmap to My Home. The innovative layout enables you to walk through Kāinga Street, a cul-de-sac of on-site houses and cabins, suppliers, agencies and exhibitors and housing-related stalls covering amenities that could improve your current living conditions. You’ll be able to access the knowledge and know-how of those with successful housing developments.

Our Kaupapa

To support the acceleration of housing outcomes across Te Tai Tokerau and Aotearoa.

The Waitangi National Trust is hosting this event to provide aspiring homeowners, and housing developers with a guide of how to develop housing.

There’s no better place to hold this housing expo than on the national Treaty Grounds where Te Tiriti o Waitangi was signed and discussions of equity, partnership, protection and reciprocity were held, and still are.

Waitangi is a place to have significant conversations that are important for the country and it is a place to come up with solutions.

Whether your journey is about improving your current home, building a single house or a whole development, the industry has come together to share their knowledge and experience, present solutions of different scales and price points. Hear from the people who have been there, know the challenges and benefit from their experience, wether you are an individual or a collective.

Waitangi Housing Expo 2024 will present a series of wānanga from the Kāinga Kōrero stage, including representatives of papakāinga projects, iwi housing, industry experts and key agencies, all hosted by Pio Terei.

Hear from whānau who have built papakāinga developments as they share the lessons they learnt, and barriers and solutions for whānau to apply on their own whenua.

Kaitiaki Industry - Whānau Development / Project Management

Experts in project management and development provide an overview of the ‘roadmap to my home’ and share insights that smooth out the development pathway.

Whānau Voice (Part 2) Local Iwi Developers

Iwi housing developers who have built papakāinga developments share their insights, lessons learnt, and barriers and solutions for whānau to apply on their own whenua.

Community Housing Providers (CHPs)

Community housing providers will share information on the services they can offer.

Iwi Prototype Housing Initiative

Speaker to share their iwi prototype housing model for whānau seeking support for housing development in Te Tai Tokerau.
