Education Administrator (part time, permanent – 20hrs per week)

We are looking for an administration superstar to take on this new challenging role within the Education department at Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

The be successful in this role, you must be computer literate with a strong eye for detail and proven experience with administration. Experience within an education environment is an advantage. Strong organisational and time management skills are a must as you will be supplying administrative support to four teachers, handling school bookings and enquiries.

Assistant Education Officer

We are looking for a passionate and creative relief teacher to assist with delivery of our Education Programme at New Zealand’s most important historic place, the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

To be successful in this role, you must be a passionate and talented trained teacher and confident in working with groups of all ages. You will be enthusiastic about facilitating a critical engagement with the Treaty of Waitangi and Te Tiriti o Waitangi for students of all levels, as well as other learning opportunities using the extensive resources at the Treaty Grounds, including the award winning Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi.

Visitor Services Assistant

Kapahaka Performers

Tēnā Koutou

We are currently looking at recruiting kapahaka performers for the upcoming season. Primarily for our Hāngi and Concert product which runs from the start of October through to the end of April. Our Hāngi and Concert is an intimate themed evening experience that aims to give visitors to the Bay of Islands a taste of Māori culture.

Successful applicants must have:

- A basic understanding of Te Reo mē Ona Tikanga

- Experience using Mau Rākau, Poi, Tirākau and Tititorea

- The ability to sing with confidence

- Previous experience performing

- Specialised skills

- Good communication skills

- The ability to play the guitar

Successful applicants will be fast learners, reliable and trustworthy. Applicants will need to have a reliable form of transport.

Shows run between 4 – 5 nights per week and performers are required between the hours of 5.30 and 8pm. All training will be provided and all those interested must be available to attend a two-week training camp in mid September (times to be confirmed). Please note - these positions may suit those looking for extra part time work, those studying or last year of school leavers. Interviews will take place at the beginning of September.

Duty Manager

We are looking for an experienced hospitality professional to manage our very busy café and catering operation. Located at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Whare Waka Café is a daytime operation serving visitors from around NZ and around the world, as well as a loyal local clientele,

As well as the café operation, we also host a wide range of functions and events each year, including many VIP functions. During the summer season we run a very popular Hangi and Concert product several evenings a week.

This is a fulltime permanent position and offers competitive remuneration and excellent working conditions.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

• Management of the day-to-day café operations

• Staff management, including hiring, rostering and training

• Stock control

• Ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are maintained at a high level

• Planning and delivery of functions

Qualifications and skills required include:

• Proven experience managing a similar café/restaurant environment

• Proven staff management experience

• Barista skills

• General Manager’s Certificate

• Excellent presentation and the ability to lead by example and set the standards for the café team

• A can-do attitude and ability to work on your own or in a team

• A friendly, confident and reliable approach.

We're looking for highly motivated volunteers at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

Volunteer positions are available in Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi, working in our heritage gardens and working on the beautiful Treaty Grounds.

These are all roles that involve customer interaction so we are seeking volunteers who love to meet people and who can help to make the experience of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds a memorable one.
