Making a difference to the lives of young Kiwis

The NZ Defence Force Youth Development Unit recently visited Waitangi as part of a yearly Adventure Challenge. A big highlight for them was exploring some of the personal stories of soldiers and their families in Te Rau Aroha museum. Our education team always looks forward to a rousing farewell haka from the NZDF youth and these awesome young men and women from Tikipunga High, Onehunga High, Kelston Boys High and Tāmaki College did not disappoint!

The Defence Force has a long and proud history of providing leadership and personal development programmes for our youth. Their activity-based programmes encourage self-discipline, personal responsibility and community values, helping young people realise their potential as adults. There are many success stories, no doubt some will come out of this group!

Ma te huruhuru ka rere te manu – Adorn the bird with feathers so it can fly!  A Māori whakatauki which fits well with the valuable work the NZDF does to make a difference for our rangatahi.
