Matariki is both the name of the star cluster and of the season of its first rising, which marks the Māori New Year sometime in June or July each year.  It is a time rich in tradition when whānau (family) gathered to remember the ancestors, reflect on the past and plan for the future.

Matariki and Digital Technologies Teacher Resource

This unit provides educators (including parents) with ideas and digital activities for teaching the New Zealand Curriculum Technology Progress Outcomes using the context of Matariki. The activities can be adapted for use with Year 1-8 students.
